PHILADELPHIA, Penn., Sept. 20, 2017 /AxisWire/ — Greenhouse Ventures has hosted three of six PA Medicinal Cannabis Education Tour events to date in Philadelphia, Allentown, and Pittsburgh, totaling upwards of 200 healthcare professionals from across Pennsylvania. All events are open to the public and accredited for healthcare professionals with education content provided by The Lambert Center for the Study of Medicinal Cannabis and Hemp at Thomas Jefferson University.

The PA Medicinal Cannabis Education Tour was launched in early July following announcements from Pennsylvania’s Department of Health on initial dispensary and grower/processor permit winners. Greenhouse Ventures and The Lambert Center for the Study of Medicinal Cannabis and Hemp at Thomas Jefferson University organized the PA Medicinal Cannabis Education Tour with one mission: Educate Pennsylvania Healthcare Professionals.

“My hope is that the timely nature of this tour will serve to increase healthcare professional participation at all levels, and the feedback that we received suggests that this will be the case.” Says Dr. Sara Jane Ward, Course Instructor of PA Medicinal Cannabis Education Tour and Assistant Professor at the Center for Substance Abuse and Research at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University.

Health care professionals attending one of the remaining PA Medicinal Cannabis Education Tour events will learn about the underlying science pertaining to the pharmacologic and therapeutic options associated with cannabis. Attendees also receive critical updates related to Pennsylvania’s state law on the anticipated use, recommendation and dispensing of medical cannabis for medical conditions.

“One of the most common misconceptions within the healthcare community is that scientific evidence regarding the safety and efficacy of cannabinoid-based therapy doesn’t exist. It does exist, but it has been limited in the past due to many factors. However we do have clinical trial data that support the use of medical marijuana for some very important conditions such as chronic pain.” explains Dr. Ward.

Tour co-host Greenhouse Ventures is partnering with industry-leading nonprofits, pharmacist associations, and family physician offices across the state to increase awareness about the PA Medicinal Cannabis Education Tour. The Tour’s partners include, but are not limited to, The Pennsylvania Pain Society, PA Pharmacists Association, Pennsylvania Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and the Epilepsy Foundation of Eastern PA.

“We (The Pennsylvania Pain Society) choose to partner with the program based on our belief that the PA Medicinal Cannabis Education Tour has demonstrated a true commitment to medical cannabis education and advocacy.” said Bruce Nicholson, MD, President of The Pennsylvania Pain Society. Nicholson continued, “I would recommend my colleagues attend a PA Medicinal Cannabis Tour program in order to obtain an unbiased evidence based introduction to a potentially beneficial treatment option that your patients will wish to discuss.”

Each event associated with the PA Medicinal Cannabis Education Tour is open to the general public and also accredited for physicians, physician assistants, nurses, and pharmacists with CE credits provided by The Lambert Center for the Study of Medicinal Cannabis and Hemp at Thomas Jefferson University. Attendees have the option upon purchasing a ticket to identify him/herself as one of the healthcare professionals listed above. To date the tour has attracted more nurses than any other profession, with pain management and family physicians as the second most represented group.

“I thought the healthcare professional turnout in my area was great.” Said Riley Cote, former Philadelphia Flyer and current Founder of Hemp Heals Foundation and Athletes for Care. “I spoke to a couple physicians and nurses following the lecture, and they were very pleased with the structure of the lecture and the information they received.”

The next two events along the PA Medicinal Cannabis Education Tour are taking place Tuesday, September 26th in Harrisburg at Harrisburg University, and Wednesday, September 27th in State College at Celebration Hall. Doors will open at 5:30 pm and the event will formerly end around 7:30 pm. Attendees will be provided with drinks and food before and after the programming, as well as intimate access to a select few exhibitors who range from Pennsylvania permit winners, to organizations that provide products and services to patients and healthcare professionals in the industry.

“As someone who is extremely passionate about holistic health and botanical healing, I thought the PA Medicinal Cannabis Education Tour was an extremely valuable teaching tool for both health care professionals and the general public. Education is the key ingredient to developing a quality medical cannabis program here in Pennsylvania and this tour helps bring insight and clarity to the overall program and the laws that exist within it.” Said Cote.
